Your First Visit: Getting Clear on What’s Going On

Your first visit is focused on listening, understanding, and gathering information — not jumping straight into treatment.

During this visit, you can expect:

01

A conversation about your health history, concerns, and goals

02

A posture and movement assessment

03

Gentle orthopedic and neurological testing

04

Digital X-rays, if clinically indicated

What Happens at Your First Visit?

Your first visit is comprehensive—we cover everything in one appointment so you can start feeling better right away.

We’ll review:

  • Consultation & Health History - We'll talk through what's going on, your health history, and your goals.
  • Thorough Examination - We'll check your posture, range of motion, and how your spine and nervous system are functioning. If needed, we'll take X-rays to get a clear picture.
  • First Adjustment - If appropriate based on our findings, we'll get you adjusted on your first visit (most patients do).
  • Care Plan Recommendations - We'll review what we found, show you your X-rays (if taken), and walk you through our recommendations for care.
  • Transparent Pricing - We'll discuss how long care might take, how often you'll need to come in, and what your investment will be—whether you're using insurance or paying cash.

No pressure, no surprises—just honest guidance to help you make the best choice for your health.

Common Questions Before Your First Visit

Most patients feel immediate relief after an adjustment. You may hear a popping or cracking sound, which is completely normal and is just gas releasing from the joint. If you're uncomfortable with manual adjustments, we also use instrument-assisted and drop table techniques that don't produce that sound. We always walk you through what we're going to do before we do it.

In most cases, yes. After your consultation, exam, and any necessary X-rays, we'll begin your first treatment session the same day. This may include an adjustment, decompression, traction, or other therapies depending on your findings.

Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing that allows you to move. Athletic wear or casual clothes work great. Avoid dresses, suits, or restrictive clothing if possible.

If clinically necessary, yes. X-rays help us see the structural alignment of your spine and identify issues that aren't visible through a physical exam alone. Not every patient needs X-rays, and we'll explain why we're recommending them if we do. X-rays are taken on-site so there's no need for a separate appointment.

Most people feel better right away, often noticing reduced tension, improved range of motion, or pain relief. Some patients experience mild soreness afterward, similar to what you might feel after a workout. This is normal and typically resolves within 24-48 hours. Drinking water and staying mobile helps.

Your first visit includes everything: consultation, exam, adjustment, and a review of your personalized care plan and pricing. After that, you'll begin your recommended treatment schedule. Follow-up visits are shorter and focused on your specific therapies, whether that's adjustments, decompression, traction, or rehab exercises.

Of course. Families are welcome at Thrive. If your children want to be seen as well, let us know when you schedule so we can set aside enough time. Many families book appointments together for convenience.

That's completely normal, and you're not alone. Our team walks you through every step so you always know what's happening and why. You can ask questions at any point, and we won't do anything without your permission first.
